What's the story of black painted woman? "'Black Hole'" represents the desolation of my generation, the worhless promises for better jobs after graduation. Shutting doors in my face after free internships and low-paid jobs. Market changing rapidly. Yet, finding a solution to survive in a world of deceptive happiness with a self-realization is hard achievement. It is an inner torture, which in the past has never been attempted" - The Artist about her show.
Despite the show itself is unparalleled and breathtaking, the story behind it is defininately earthbound and sad. The choreography, painting and moves are telling us the story. The artist explains: "You can see a dancer, all body painted in black, who begins with self-confidence a difficult choreography but, with much surprise, something stops her dancing and makes her fall to the ground (...) She is painted of Black, a non colour, nobody care to see her, also if, like a Black Hole, she is real, also if nobodody can appreciate her qualities. While she danced she left traces of her passage, painting with her body on the floor, as an extreme way to be seen".
After that explanation it would be inappropriate to perceive this show as just another happy-go-lucky erotic event. But in the matter of Private Deviations perception, we must say that telling about the world problems in such brave and erotic way enchains attention much more than typical "what's-wrong-with-this-world" grousing. It also makes in fact, that person of performer gains in our eyes - she took on the role of miserable being, deprived herself of intimacy, rejected her dignity and shamelessly exposing her body to strangers and finally she got smeared in black paint - all that to tell us the story about problem, which majority of us prefers not to think of...
For the technical, important for this blog aspects, the "Black Hole" got everything the erotic performance should have. The idea, imagination, execution. That kind of high-end performance. Fully painted model in close contact with the audience. A lot of dynamic moves and frontal poses. For the record it should be said that unfortunately the dancer isn't completely nude - as you could see, her lower parts are hidden with adhesive patch. Maybe the artist decided to that considering the reaction of audience or maybe just to save at least some of model's dignity. Let's skip the visual aspects and primitive desire to see literally everything, but personally, I think it somehow impacts on resonance of "Black Hole" - that black creature has to be sad and vulnerable, yet she's still able to save the rest of her image. It doesn't add up somehow. But that's just a casual remark, not necessarily right... Of course you can always watch the video and make your own opinion.
In the end let's see who's behind the whole undertaking. Elena Tagliapietra herself. She was born in Venice, Italy and lives there. Many of her works refer's to that city. You can say that "Black Hole" is characteristic for her output - in her art she often deals with relationship between human and the world he created:
